Bush Bids to Destabilise Chavez

Once again the Americans have been up to their old tricks. Not content for the people of Venezuela exercise the rights in a free democratic election, Bush Corp have decided that intervention is the best policy. Millions of dollars have been pledged in a somewhat bizarrely named "pro-democracy programme", or destabilisation programme. Of course, the American government have already attempted to overturn the will of the people in that nation with their attempted coup in 2002. Thankfully that attempt to pervert the course of democracy was overturned due to the power of the people (a scary idea for Bush Corp that needs to be crushed).

This attempt by Bush to exert influence over the region should come as no surprise to many of those who follow South American politics. Attempts will continue to be made to fight the tide of people who are turning away from American imperialist power and seeking new ways of governing. What I find amazing is the fact the the US thinks that this is in anyway acceptable. Imagine if Chavez, Castro et al decided to fund a political party in the US. I suspect this would be viewed as nothing less than a declaration of war. The US has no business trying to control the people of South America, a region that has been continually suppressed by dictators sponsored by the White House, whilst seeing their chosen leaders assassinated (Allende). Hopefully, the Venezuelan people will see through this attempt to subvert the democratic process and continue to stick two fingers up to the imperialists in the north.
