I only ask because I have been reading the article on the BBC website about the re-election of President Uribe. It reads as an almost glowing report of Uribe and his administration. It mentions nothing about the numbers of people who have been displaced in Colombia over the course of his leadership. It also fails to comment on how the fumigation policy in Colombia has had disastrous effects upon the population, leading to mass displacement, sickness and, in some cases, death. It also passes little comment on the fact that Uribe overturned the constitution to allow him to seek re-election (whereas much of the media have been quick to criticise Chavez of the same intentions). The poor human rights record also gets very little attention. The fact that union members are murdered there at an alarming rate (see earlier post) is completely ignored.
Of course, this will not get mentioned on sites that say they care about the BBC's biased stance. Why? Because Colombia is an ally of Bush and, by extension, a friend of all right-wingers everywhere. They would not point out any bias in their favour as it would bring their whole argument crashing down. The facts of the matter are that the Western media is largely uncritical of the Colombian government. The right will continue to try and destroy Chavez and Morales while turning a blind eye to the 'friendly' right-wing regime in Colombia and it's blatant disregard for Human Rights.

An Example of Right-Wing Bias at the BBC?
