Ecclestone Attempts to Influence Elections in Spain

I only mentioned him yesterday, and up he pops again. From The Age:

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone insulted Spain by linking Valencia's right to host a race next year to a win there by the opposition conservative party in upcoming local elections, Spain's Socialist government said today.

Britain's Ecclestone, 76, said Thursday that Valencia would host a European Grand Prix from 2008, but only if the current president of Valencia's regional government Francisco Camps is re-elected on May 27.

He told a news conference called to announce the new race that he is a good friend of Camps, as well of the mayor of the port city of Valencia, Rita Barbera, who are both members of the main opposition Partido Popular.

The arrogance of the wealthy.
