Cheney Advocates Torture

Once again the reality of the human rights abuses that the Bu$h administration are prepared to inflict has emerged from behind the rhetoric. Dick Cheney, the puppeteer behind Bu$h, has claimed that a:

when questioned on interrogation techniques by a conservative radio commentator. The technique referred to is more than just a 'dunk in the water' however. What Cheney is actually referring to is 'waterboarding', a technique popular amongst CIA officers. Waterboarding actually involves the following:

The prisoner is bound to an inclined board, feet raised and head slightly below the feet. Cellophane is wrapped over the prisoner's face and water is poured over him. Unavoidably, the gag reflex kicks in and a terrifying fear of drowning leads to almost instant pleas to bring the treatment to a halt. According to the sources, CIA officers who subjected themselves to the water boarding technique lasted an average of 14 seconds before caving in.

What is really the 'no-brainer', is the fact that this could be described as anything other than torture. At least now we are in no doubt whatsoever that the Bu$h administration has a rather liberal view as to what is defined as torture. One would suspect that if any American serviceman was subjected to such treatment, the administration would be quick to condemn it. Another example of the double standards at the heart of Bu$h Corp.
