As the bombs continue to rain down on the Lebanese people, caught between the ongoing aggression, the US once more refuses the opportunity to call on Israel to cease it's bombardment. Despite the death toll now reaching 300 people in Lebanon (compared to 29 Israelis), the US has failed to do anything to stop the slaughter of civilians. They have already vetoed resolutions in the Security Council to ensure that there is no condemnation of this atrocity by the international community. And Rice has stated that she will not visit the Middle East until next week, when the death toll (if the current rate is continued) could near the 1,000 mark. In Lebanon innocent people are dying everyday while the US just looks on. Do they ever wonder why there is an increasing radicalisation of Islamic youth? This is the very reason. Regardless of whether Israel was provoked or not, they have once more failed to analyse the situation properly. What do they think will happen if they continue this travesty?? People will turn against Hezbollah? That truly is 'simplistic' thinking. Which brings me neatly on to John 'fuck the UN' Bolton.
Remember when Bolton said if you lost ten floors of the UN, no-one would notice? Well with shitheads like him there, I would have to agree. Let's just hope he is in one of those ten floors when it happens. Bolton symbolises the current problems with the UN. Hopelessly tied to the American regime, unable to make meaningful decisions when the US steps to the table. The UN needs reform, sure, if only to stop the persistent mis-use of the veto in the Security Council. Fuck-wits like Bolton, will continue to try and stop the world community from acting against it's closest ally. They will continue to justify illegal actions perpetrated both by the US and by it's partners. And innocent people will continue to die. Bolton claims that calling for a ceasefire is 'simplistic'. Stopping innocent civilians dying is 'simplistic' is it? Thinking that Hezbollah will disappear is 'simplistic' thinking but then, when have you known the Bush administration do anything other than the 'simplistic' approach.
