He's Got A Manbag

Funny piece in The Guardian today regarding the trend for men carrying bags, or 'manbags' as they appear to have been dubbed. The article indicated many reasons for the sudden growth in 'manbags', including the fashion for tighter clothing and the amount of stuff we carry around everyday (laptops, iPods etc etc). I have been a devotee of the 'manbag' for sometime now. It all started when I first went to Spain with my wife and saw the popularity of said item. Of course, I thought it was a cool idea and dared to try it when I arrived back in England. Surprisingly no-one took the piss out of me (well, not to my face anyway!!), so I continued to this very day.

Now some of you (only some!!) might be starting to think I am some kind of fashionista. Unfortunately, the reason I chose to carry bag was nothing to do with fashion, it was environmental. Stick with me on this! I get sick to death of shop assistants shoving plastic bags at me whether I want one or not. Most of the time I do not. In fact, as far as I am concerned, the companies that distribute the most amount of plastic bags should be higher levels of taxation than those who use more environmentally friendly methods of packing goods. This is why I carry a 'manbag' (I actually prefer 'satchel'), for the sake of the planet godammit!! And if I look cool and trendy while doing it then all the better.
