Bullying Managers

Interested to read today that there is a real problem with managers bullying staff. I found this particularly interesting as I have worked for just such a manager. This was a guy who would use any methods possible to get you out of his team, except for managing your performance. He would make threatening phone calls, demote you without reason, give you unrealistic targets in the expectation you would fail and so on. He was basically a dishonest little shit. I will not name him at the moment, but if people are interested I might do, serve the little fucker right!!

The beauty of it was that he used to suck up to his manager like his life depended on it. Hence his boss thought the sun shone out of his arse and would back him all the way. What makes it even worse, is that I can't even remember him doing a full days work. He was always making excuses and going home. I put this down to the fact his partner was a lot smarter than him so she used to do all his hard work for him. We used to go weeks and months without seeing or hearing from him. Apart from the odd threatening phone call that is. The problem was, it being retail, there is such a high turnover of staff, that they are more or less powerless to do anything about it. Not many join the union because they see the job as a stop-gap. Consequently, the manager has the luxury of impunity.

Anyway, I know a lot of people out there have been affected by arsehole managers, so if you have had serious problems this might help.
