I read with interest today that Lord Rogers, the architect of the Pompidou Centre in Paris, has been at the centre of controversy around his latest project in New York. There has been a growing move to throw him off the project by leading politicians and some Jewish organisations. Why? Because Lord Rogers allowed his offices to be used by Architects and Planners for Justice in Palestine. Whatever you may think of the Israel/Palestine issue, it is clearly unacceptable for a man to lose his role in this project because of a particular political view. Imagine a right-wing architect losing his contract because he was anti-immigration. This really is political correctness gone mad and is a sign that not only are the left guilty of it on occasion, so are the right. A man's private views (if indeed, he shares these views) is no indication of his capability to complete the job in hand. I am sure the right will back the removal of Lord Rogers from the project, but one hopes not if they practice what they preach.
