Bill Hicks: Agent of Evolution

Just recently I have been spreading the word about Bill Hicks at work. Personally, I think he was one of the greatest comedians of the last century. Of course, his work is not to everyone's taste. He often touches on political issues and pornography, two subjects that are bound to cause a polarisation of his audience. He was, however, unique in his time (and now). He had the guts to stand up and say what was really wrong with America and popular culture. It was uncompromising, powerful stuff. The weird thing is, it still resonates to this day. When you watch his routines you kind of feel like he is talking about the here and now, not 1990. Of course, it helps that the president had the same name (Bush Sr then). If you haven't seen any of his stuff, I strongly urge you to do so. I also suggest that you read Love all the People a selection of routines, letters and lyrics. He was without doubt a very special comedian.
