Melanie Phillips - Soft Brainlessness in Action

Good old Melanie Phillips, you can always rely on her to fail to get to grips with the most basic points about terrorism. In a piece entitled The soft brainlessness of denying ‘Islamist terror’, Phillips displays soft brainlessness of her own inimitable kind. In her 'article' (such as it is), she claims the following:

Really? Fuck me, this woman is a genius. How did I not see this before? No wonder she is the leading intellectual light in modern Britain. Such incredible insight. Oh no, hang on a minute, let's look at that again:

Has anyone ever actually claimed that there was no extremism before Iraq?? I have never heard anyone make such a claim. If anyone can find a quote of someone actually claiming that there was no extremism before Iraq, please post it in the comments section. This is typical Phillips distortion. The point is, and always has been, that the Iraq war has seen an increase in radicalisation. An INCREASE. Got it Mel?? Notice the subtle difference?
