Tightening of Immigration Controls

In a television interview on Sunday, John (if he's a bloody doctor i'm Jodie Marsh) Reid once again put on his bestest hard man face in an effort to show that he is really, really tough. Really. I mean, you can try and take him on, but get to close and WHAM, you're on the floor clutching your face. He really is very, very hard. So anyway John ('ard as fuckin' nails) Reid did his usual routine of playing to the Daily Scum (sorry, Daily Mail - always make that mistake) and acting like a, how can I put this, cunt. So what did Blair's heavy have to say then?? Well, guess what, he was attacking those bloody annoying immigrants. You know the ones, the ones that steal our money and watch daytime TV all day. Not the ones who save the NHS from collapse, oh no, I mean they don't really count do they?? Not like this bunch of sponging scum, eh Johnny boy??

Anyway, getting back to the interview with the lovable rogue. 'Dr' Reid was not afraid of using the rhetoric that the Tories were bashed for during the last election campaign. According to the Glaswegian attack dog:

People recognise that others from outside this country can bring great skills here, but they also want to be assured that our services - whether it's schools or hospitals - and indeed their own terms and conditions will be preserved and immigration will be managed.

To achieve this managed immigration, Reidy has suggested that an independent committee sets an 'optimum level of immigration'. Sound familiar to you Daily Mail fans out there?? Of course it does, that's what the Tories were campaigning for in the last election. Yes, once again the Labour party show that, scratch the red surface, and you find a hint of blue. Apparently, according to Hazel Blears in 2004,

This is the Tories using asylum and immigration in a nakedly political way, it is appalling.

Nice one Hazel, for once I actually agree with you. You have no idea how hard that last sentence was to commit to e-paper. Really, really hard. Bless her, it's not her fault, she is just so damn useless. Do you think anyone actually notices the government recycling Tory policies?? Jesus I hope so.

Anyway, around the time that John 'I'm really, really, really fuckin' 'ard' Reid announced this, we learn from Australia why just such a policy is absolutely disgusting. A delegation from the Edmund Rice Centre, have just returned from Afghanistan where they investigated the murders of failed asylum seekers, deported by the Australian government. The delegation reported that:

as many as 9 men returned from Nauru may have been killed, and 3 children of people sent back from Nauru can be confirmed as having been killed.

Furthermore, according to Edmund Rice Centre Director Phil Glendenning:

'The families had been told on Nauru by Australian Immigration officials that Afghanistan would be safe. It clearly was not. It clearly is not’.

So Hazel, you are right, this is appalling. The really appalling thing is that this will become a common effect of your Home Secretary's ridiculous hard-man posturing. Still, once we send them back, it's not our problem is it?? You bunch of right-wing fuck-wits.
