Melanie writes:These past few days the inability of millions of Westerners, both here and in Europe, to condemn fascist terrorists who start wars, spread racial hatred, and despise Western democracies is the real story, not the “quarter-ton” Israeli bombs that inadvertently hit civilians in Lebanon who live among rocket launchers that send missiles into Israeli cities and suburbs.
(emphasis is mine).
To remind you:
The Association for Civil Rights in Israel on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to establish a state commission of inquiry into the killings at Qana. As the
Israel Air Force continues to investigate the air strike, questions have been raised over military accounts of the incident. It now appears that the military had no information on rockets launched from the site of the building, or the presence of Hezbollah men at the time. The Israel Defense Forces had said after the deadly air-strike that many rockets had been launched from Qana. However, it changed its version on Monday. The site was included in an IAF plan to strike at several buildings in proximity to a previous launching site. Similar strikes were carried out in the past. However, there were no rocket launches from Qana on the day of the strike. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Red Cross workers reported on Monday that 28 bodies, 19 of them children, were removed from the rubble.
Not to mention the fact that 83 Israeli soldiers have been killed compared to 41 civilians. Furthermore:
"Hizbullah are striking at very specific Israeli targets, though no one in the media is reporting the fact," said a local human rights activist from Nazareth who wished to remain anonymous, but expressed a widely shared view. "The Galilee is full of military installations Hizbullah are trying to hit with missiles. Two bases are close to Nazareth, and most people realise that was what was being aimed for when the two boys were killed. "Even in Haifa, the rockets are mostly landing down in the port area, where Hizbullah clearly know there are important military facilities. Nasrallah is trying to damage Israel's military and economic infrastructure as a small taste of what Israel is inflicting on Lebanon."
And now, after days of nothing (thanks to the wonderful US and UK governments) a ceasefire is finally agreed by the UN. Nasrallah has already said that Hizbullah would accept the ceasefire and halt attacks on Israel. Of course, you would expect Israel to do the same, as it is a UN resolution after all. However, Olmert has stated that their actions will only cease when the government agrees to back the UN resolution. Funny, I thought that one had to abide by UN resolutions, I didn't realise it was optional. But then, as the UN is run by America, I guess it probably is. I for one will not be expecting the assault on Lebanon to end any time soon.
