I just had to print this letter aimed at Bono and his tax dodging, elitist buddies:
No matter whether Bono's tax planning (U2 inspire Irish ire by avoiding tax, August 9) is legal, tax avoidance by wealthy elites increases inequality and undermines the funding of health and education programmes in rich and poor countries alike. Tax revenues lie at the heart of financing development and reducing state dependence on external debt. Hence we call on Bono (and others) to show their commitment to development by avoiding harmful tax practises, including the use of tax havens and shelters which reduce tax liabilities for the rich, but only at a heavy cost to society.
John Christensen and Sony Kapoor Tax Justice Network
I'll try not to laugh too hard when the tax dodging elitist next appears on TV asking us to make poverty history while he sits back and counts all the money he has saved.
Bono - you are as evil as the fat cat capitalists that pull the strings. In fact you are worse, because you claim to care so you can appear anti-establishment, when in fact you are damaging the very cause you claim to support.
