For sometime now I have been convinced that America and the UK are intent on linking Hizbullah with Al-Qaeda. It is a blatantly obvious trick that ignores some of the profound differences between the two groups. But the, some poor souls are going to buy the propaganda aren't they?? The latest attempt to subtly link the two came in an address by George Bush at the week-end. In his weekly address, he said:They kill civilians and American servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they deliberately hide behind civilians in Lebanon. They are seeking to spread their totalitarian ideology.
Clearly, the line between the two groups is being deliberately blurred for political gain. As I have said many times before, there is no link whatsoever between the two groups and to make one would be simplistic in the extreme (but then when have those on the right been anything other than simple?).
Furthermore, the UK government is continuing its policy of diverting people from the reality of the situation. What is laughable is that the person who has thrown her hat into the ring is something of an extremist in herself. Ruth Kelly has called on Muslims to step up the fight against extremists, but no-where is there a mention of the growing band of Christian extremists that dominate the political landscape, particularly in the US. Perhaps this is because Kelly belongs to this band of extremists, given that she is a member of Opus Dei. During her speech, Kelly made the same mistake as many of her colleagues. According to reports, she:..denied any link between the rise of extremism and British foreign policy.
As with her colleagues, Kelly believes that critics of government policy are claiming that the terrorist attacks/threats, are simply down to foreign policy. Of course, this is not true. One cannot deny, however, that foreign policy has played a part in the growing threat. Whether you believe in the motives of the government or not, it is clear they are making a huge error. Every time they allow Israel to go unpunished, every time they threaten an Islamic nation (Iran) it provides handy propaganda for the very small band of extremists that are intent on starting a Holy War with the evangelicals in the White House. It is pure folly to suggest that the actions around the world are not linked in any way. Let's make this absolutely clear for the Nick Cohens of this world:

And The Lies Continue......
Foreign policy is not the only reason for the perceived 'threat', as all intelligent people would agree, but it is a contributing factor and of that there is no doubt whatsoever.
