In Layman's Terms

Anyone else slightly suspicious about the death of Kenneth Lay?? Isn't it a little odd that he has died of a heart-attack shortly before his sentence is due to start? Some reports said he was a relatively healthy man with no previous history of heart trouble. Mmmmm, funny. I do hope it has nothing to do with the fact that Lay being in prison for fraud might be embarrassing for Bush et al. I mean the Republicans wouldn't want the American public to be permanently reminded of how close they are to a fraudulent crook? How he gave so much support to Bush and how, despite claims to the contrary, he was more than just an 'acquaintance' of Bush (who called him 'Kenny boy').

Lay was very close to the Republican administration and, in particular, George W Bush. In fact, Enron was Bush’s top lifetime contributer. Furthermore, letters written between the two men suggest that Lay was more than merely an 'acquaintance'. The rather personal nature of the letters suggests that Bush and Lay were actually quite friendly. So why is the spokesman for the White House referring to him as an 'acquaintance'?? Perhaps it is because they are scared of the association and so they should be. There have been many criminal acts by this government and to have such a public symbol of this corruption is highly embarrassing to the White House. But then, in a world where the right-wing holds all the cards, is it really surprising that they have been so quiet?? Is it really surprising that the media do not hold the president to account?? No, they would rather focus on some bogus War on Terror that has no meaning and can never be won. Meanwhile, the masses just go about their business safe in the knowledge that the government is in control.
