With the 80th birthday of Fidel Castro approaching, the US government has clearly been busy putting together their plans for the aftermath of Castro's reign. The Guardian reports today that they are preparing an $80 million plan to press for regime change when Castro hands the reigns over to his brother. I am sure that the report that was quoted is not the only report that has been produced on regime change in Cuba over the last 40 years. I wonder if they would be quite so keen on a foreign power putting money and financial aid into the hands of people who would serve their interests? Presumably, they wouldn't be very happy.
There was a time, not so long ago, when the US was non-interventionist. When they refused to get involved in wars around the world and lived in peace. That seemed to change around the time of the First World War and, since then, the US has made it her business to interfere and bully governments across the world. When will it be the turn of the UK I wonder? And when will the US concentrate on getting its own house in order, before lecturing governments across the world? It will be interesting to see the propaganda war that will be accelerated in the coming months over Cuba, both in the US and the UK.
